My work at Ornot

In the summer of 2023, I had the opportunity of interning at Ornot and dipping my toes into the elaborate process that happens before any jersey, sock, or bib is made.  As a marketing intern, I helped in the lifestyle photography of numerous products and product lines. All of the photos were then taken in the great outdoors of San Francisco.

02.  Camelbak
“Podium® Chill™ 21oz Water Bottle, Sweet Treats Limited Edition”
If you didn’t already know, Camelbak is an outdoor acessory company making products ranging from backpacks and waterbottles, to coolers and reservoirs. One of their well known products, the Insulated Podium Bottle got a new look, and I had the opportunity to shoot it as well as a number of lifestyle pictures.

My work at Camelbak

The shoot consisted of five cyclists from San Francisco’s own cycling club @fatcakeclub, me, the bottles, and some croissants (for motivation of course). The photos were taken at the Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park, Twin Peaks, and finally, Cafe Reville.

03.   The DASH Race

The DASH Race, a 300 kilometer race from Luft Los Angeles to Boom Boom Bike Room in Santa Barbara and back was a cycling race that took place on October 28 of 2023. Cycling Duos would have the chance to go head to head and balls to the wall as they had to race to Boom Boom and pick up a token (an air freshener) as proof to reaching the first and only checkpoint.  Both team mates must return with the token to end the clock. Although the teams left Luft as a mass start, the teams slowly broke apart as they started to reach mile thirty. The winning team finished the 300 kilometer route in just under eight hours, at an average speed of 38.6 kilometers per hour.

How it was shot:

Thanks to our getaway driver @dylanbuffington, me and @codychouinard we able to stick our heads out the window and take photos of the race. With a bunch of meticulious checking of riders’ find my locations, google maps, and Cody Chouinard local knowledge, we were able to take photos ahead of the groups.

thanks for the fun @luftlosangeles

04.   Tokyo, Japan

Max: “ I want to go to Japan.”

Me: “I want to go to Japan.”

Us: “Hey Pete, do you want to go to Japan?”

Pete: “I’ve always wanted to go to Japan”

- This was (basically) the conversation that took place roughly four days from boarding a flight bound for Tokyo, Japan.  For a spontaneous idea, that was concieved four days in advance and planned in two days, I’d say we made the most of our five days in Tokyo.

The taking of these photos:

All of these photos were taken on a Fujifilm X100F. There would have been more photos on film if for some reason the roll didn’t come out blank.

We started our trip exploring the streets of Shinjuku City and then heading to Shibuya City Crossing the next day. This was the most people I had ever seen cross a street. We then visited Ginza on the third day, and hitting the Senso-ji Temple on the fourth. Finally we finished our stay visiting mini pig cafes in Shinjuku City.

Would do again.

07.  Street Photography

My street photography is often all unplanned, moments I just run into out on the road. The inspiration to start taking pictures started when I wanted to take more photos while riding on my bike. Now these photos have sort of transitioned off the bike.

About
Hello, I am Douglas Lim.

I am an American Born Chinese, my favorite song at the moment is Carl Sagan by Night Moves, and a new years resolution I am currently working on is to publish a book by the end of this year. I have been taking photos for the better part of six years now, taking pictures of things ranging from light spilling onto objects on city streets, to people posing in front of me, sitting on a stool, in front of a big light. You can probably find me riding bikes somewhere in Southern California, the place I now call home. Outside of cycling, I also enjoy bikepacking, learning how to cook, running from point A to B, drawing, and spending too much money on clothes.
